Since the film Babe was released in 1995, we have fallen in love with an adorable pig who made an uncharacteristic career choice of becoming a sheepdog. This surprise hit pleased the audience and critics alike and even managed to nab an Oscar for Visual Effects.
The story revolves around a piglet that has avoided the fate generally destined for pigs, think bacon and ham, and was able to become a successful sheep dog because of his polite manners and the all-out support of the whole animal farm. Babe started out as a young and ignorant piglet that's positively clueless about how pigs are supposed to deal with the animal social hierarchy. He was able to make friends with the animals though and had first crack at herding by coaxing the chickens into a straight line.
Babe accidentally runs into the sheep field, plays hero by squealing on the thieves who were trying to steal the sheep, and learns that the ultimate skill of sheep herding is to be nice and polite. As unlikely as pigs can go, Babe later enters a sheepdog competition and gets a perfect score.
Babe was played by both real and animatronic pigs while the voice is provided by Christine Cavanaugh. The real pigs also escaped the butcher and happily retired in Australia where the movie was shot.
